A Manager’s Core Skills

Managers are not born to succeed. Over time, through trial and error, helped by coaches, mentors, and training, managers develop the skills required of the job. Although there are many, many skills required of different managers, at its core there are five skills needed by all managers. While there is no replacement for real managerial experience, certain managerial skills, if honed properly, will elevate your success as a manager.

The core skills of a manager are problem-solving and decisionmaking, planning and delegating, communicating, managing meetings, and managing oneself. Lacking confidence and competencies in even one skill may make the difference between success and failure. This course explores these five core skills every manager needs.
