Penzoil: Proactively Delivering Health & Safety Training Pennzoil-Quaker State Company, a leading worldwide automotive consumer products company, recognized early that employee safety and satisfaction is paramount to productivity and profitability. That's why Pennzoil's risk management, medical and safety teams regularly coordinate with facilities and administration teams to ensure that all employees are provided with a safe, comfortable working environment, as well as first-rate health and safety training. With musculoskeletal injuries on the rise nationwide in every industry, Pennzoil prioritized delivering preventative ergonomic training to its workers. Pennzoil wrestled with how to efficiently and cost-effectively train a functionally and geographically diverse workforce. Pennzoil-Quaker State Company wanted to train all regular computer users at its Houston headquarters, and nationwide at its packaging plants, distribution centers, strategic business units, and Jiffy Lube stores. Pennzoil needed a solution that not only efficiently distributed health and safety information, but delivered compelling content, as well as a method of measuring the return on their training investment. Referred by the leading manufacturer of ergonomic office equipment, Herman Miller, Pennzoil identified Syntrio's online learning management system (LMS) and its ErgoNet courses as the ideal solution. The Syntrio Solution: Compelling Content, Web Delivery, Full-featured LMS Syntrio, the leading developer of regulatory, OSHA and legal compliance courseware, delivers highly-interactive, web-based training atop a full-featured LMS, enabling organizations to track all employees receiving training, their progress and their performance. Syntrio's e-learning solutions not only met, but exceeded Pennzoil's training expectations. "Pennzoil chose the Syntrio solution for several reasons," said Dr. Chris Skisak, Pennzoil's medical and health manager, "The ErgoNet courseware not only effectively delivers clear ergonomic instruction, but also provides a self-assessment module which solidifies the learning process, and helps employees to make ergonomic adjustments and prevent injuries." Skisak added, "Syntrio implemented the Pennzoil Online Learning Site in a matter of days, not weeks or months, allowing Pennzoil to execute on its training strategy immediately." Syntrio's LMS enabled Pennzoil to track each employee's progress, measure individual performance, and develop statistics on employee participation and success rates. Within several months of launching ErgoNet, more than 800 targeted employees had completed training, with more than 90% of those employees successfully passing the course. Syntrio CEO David Carlyle said, "We believe high completion/success rates of Syntrio courseware are a direct result of the efficient delivery of compelling content, and e-learners' ability to train according to their individual schedules." The Syntrio Return on Pennzoil's e-Learning Investment "Measuring the return on Pennzoil-Quaker State Company's investment was immediately quantifiable," said Mike Schieffer, Pennzoil's vice president of administration. "Each incidence of carpal tunnel syndrome costs an average of $25,000 dollars in medical, disability and lost productivity costs. Preventing only a few instances of repetitive stress injury covers the cost of implementing ErgoNet to Pennzoil's employees." Additionally, Pennzoil was able to train employees nationwide without incurring any expenses or lost productivity due to travel time. Schieffer added, "Recognizing cost savings and a strong return on investment are important to every decision Pennzoil-Quaker State Company makes. But the true measure of success with ErgoNet is that our employees are demonstrating an ergonomic awareness, knowledge that helps protect them." |
